Architecture, in layers nobody has to understand.
LayerCake™ is Slopware's reference architecture and the platform every module runs on. Three layers, each abstracting the one beneath it, each documented in a diagram with more arrows than boxes.
What it does
Base
Infrastructure. Compute, storage, networking, and a rack in Nepean. Regions in CryoLake™.
Filling
Microservices. Each module is between 40 and 400 services, depending on who counted.
Icing
Middleware. The Integration Integration Layer, which integrates integrations, lives here.
How it works
- STEP 01
Slice
Workloads are partitioned into slices, each of which contains all three layers.
- STEP 02
Scale
Slices are added horizontally. The cake gets wider, never taller, which is a governance decision.
- STEP 03
Serve
Deliverables are served from the top layer, warm, to the board, without the diagram.
