A Whitepaper About Our Whitepapers

On the production, gating and summarization of foundational documents

Abstract.

Slopware has published seven whitepapers. This paper examines them as a corpus, asks what they have in common, and concludes that they share a template. We argue this is a strength.

1. Introduction.

A whitepaper is a document that establishes authority by its length and its PDF-ness. Our seven papers average eleven pages, of which the abstract is one, the methodology is one, and the remaining nine are a diagram repeated at increasing zoom levels. Readers consistently report that the papers "feel thorough," which is the outcome we designed for. This meta-paper exists because a prospective customer asked whether the papers were related. They are. They are all ours.

2. Methodology.

We read the seven papers. This took one afternoon, which we note is shorter than the combined time our agents spent writing them (four minutes). We then counted recurring phrases. "Value fabric" appears 61 times across the corpus. "Synergy" appears 44 times, "alignment" 39 times, and "next steps" exactly once per paper, always in the final sentence, always followed by a colon and "align on next steps."

3. Findings.

Every paper is structured identically: a problem the reader did not know they had, a model with five levels, a diagram, and a call to action that routes to a demo form. The gating is by province only, which we find to be the minimum viable friction. Download completion is 100% because the download is a single page. Six of seven papers cite the seventh; the seventh cites this one.

4. Discussion.

Should whitepapers say something? Our data suggests that a whitepaper's function is to exist. Existence is measured by a thumbnail on a Resources page and by the sentence "as detailed in our whitepaper" in a sales call. On both measures the corpus performs at ceiling. We considered adding content and modelled the risk: content invites questions, questions invite follow-up, follow-up delays procurement. The model recommended against it.

5. Conclusion.

The seven whitepapers are foundational in the sense that they are at the bottom. This paper sits on top of them, which makes it the most recent and therefore the most cited. We recommend reading it, then the others, then the glossary, then nothing.

Next steps: align on next steps.
